Fergus' computer career started in 1968 when he was amongst the first students at Adelaide University to study Computer Science in Australia. He was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy at Edinburgh University in 1974 following his original work in redefining the human/computer interface to improve microcircuit design.

Subsequent studies involving human communication ( he lectured in Human Behavioural Therapies for 4 years at the Australian Academy of Natural Therapies) and graphic design ( he established and operated a successful Stained Glass business in Brisbane for several years) have all contributed to an exceptionally well-rounded set of skills for building unique, user-friendly, appealing and effective human/computer interfaces for small business which today we know as websites.
